A recent report from Lancaster University "Engineering the Future - Nuclear Lessons Learned", makes it clear that notwithstanding the nuances of the nuclear industry, the application of sound management principles in construction remain central to successful project delivery.
We quote from just two of a number of findings to encapsulate DGA's approach to the nature of service it seeks to offer the industry:
"...the contract strategy must reflect the risk being carried by the parties. The contracts must clearly define the scope and responsibility of contractors, and most importantly, the work must be placed with quality contractors"
"...there is a nuclear expertise and skills shortage among the potential UK based supply chain. Knowledge and skills are in particularly short supply and include project management, site supervision and managers with knowledge of nuclear related codes...."
Examples of DGA's collective experience includes:
High Level Waste Vitrification Plant, Sellafield
DGA, commissioned by British Nuclear Fuels, provided contract and commercial advice on the procurement and management of the civils packages to the High Level Waste facility.
AWE Power Station, Scandanavia
Assisting in the preparation of expert evidence relating to the suppliers compliance with contractual obligations and international standards with regards the project schedule prior to potential notification of arbitration proceedings.
Hinckley Point Auxillary Buildings
Provide the commercial management lead and the contract administration support to two plant rooms within the nuclear facility, working within the practical constraints of a secure environment and the specialist procedures required of the supply chain operators. The commercial service included submission, negotiation and settlement of a number of heads of claim.
